What is SAMA?

Project SAMA was a three-year research project that worked with young people to develop and test school-based interventions to support the well-being of adolescents in India.

The project ran from Jan 2021-June 2024.

Our project

Jointly led by colleagues from the University of Leeds, UK, and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, India, Project SAMA responded to this need by building on international evidence to co-design and feasibility test a multi-component whole school systems-based intervention.

With Indian young people, parents, teachers, and emotional well-being professionals from across the state of Karnataka, India, we co-designed four interventions to work synergistically across a school. The aim of the interventions were to help young people take care of the own well-being whilst also building the capacity of the school, parents and community to promote and protect youth well-being.
